Delta-8 THC – A Primer
Delta-8 THC: Newest Craze in The Cannabis World
There are a number of cannabis products available on the market, to the extent that it almost becomes challenging to keep track of all of them. Many have recently seen an increase in talk about Delta-8, peaking further interest in the topic. While Delta-8 is not something that we produce here at Peak City, the subject is significant to discuss regardless in order to understand how it fits into the cannabis market.
Delta-8 THC: What is it?
Delta-8 can be most easily understood as a cannabis compound that is similar to THC. Of course, this is a simplified way to explain the concept. Essentially, the similarities are in the effects that users experience when using THC products. It’s vital to note that THC’s technical name is Delta-9 Tetrohydrocannabinoil, despite this term being used infrequently. This often causes a bit of confusion, as technically Delta-8 and Delta-9 are both forms of THC. However, when people in the industry throw around the term “THC” loosely as such, they are simply referring to Delta-9 THC. Since Delta-8 is still “newer”, there was previously no need to label THC any further.
Like Delta-9 THC, when users use Delta-8, they often feel a “high” that then results in a sensation of happiness, bliss, relaxation, euphoria, etc. However, this sensation will be much less intense than that of Delta-9 THC.
Benefits of Delta-8:
Since Delta-8 is a “less intense” version of what most cannabis users would refer to as THC, that raises the question of who this product would be best suited for.
Some users may want to feel high, but in a more subtle way. In this situation, Delta-8 would be ideal as it would provide only a fraction of the euphoria experienced in comparison to using Delta-9 THC. Some may find the effects of Delta-9 THC too overwhelming for them, or perhaps merely too strong for certain times or activities. Some users report that Delta-9 can often cause them an uncontrollable high that is accompanied by unwanted feelings of anxiety, panic, paranoia, or extreme fatigue. For those who share this experience, Delta-8 would be the perfect alternative.
Additionally, other users may opt to use Delta-8 for legal issues. Delta-9 THC is currently still illegal in some states. Since Delta-8 only emerged in popularity recently, the legal status is still unclear. This indicates that the usage of Delta-8 may be permitted in areas where the use of Delta-9 is not, allowing residents to at least take part in the use of some cannabis products. While Delta-8 is not as potent, some may choose to use it because it is the only legal option in their state.
Delta-8 and CBD: What is the difference?
At Peak City, we are known for carrying CBD products aimed to heal, protect, and ease the mind and body. Our CBD is intended to provide medicinal benefits to users without the high, ensuring that they can experience relief from any anxiety, pain, and stress while still being able to fully function and perform their day-to-day activities.
On the contrary, Delta-8 will provide users with a high, as previously mentioned. In reality, Delta-8 is quite different from CBD and shares much more similarities to Delta-9 THC. Delta-8 should not be understood as an alternative to CBD, as the two have various contrasting properties and the selected product will ultimately depend on the user and their objective.
Here at Peak City, our goal has always been to heal without the high, which is why we do not carry Delta-8 currently. However, it’s important to talk about the different products available on the cannabis market so that users can better understand which product will best suit their needs.
