What Is CBD Distillate? – Everything You Need to Know

February 29, 2020

While CBD is popular, many people still don’t know too much about it. They may not know the therapeutic benefits and how CBD could potentially help alleviate a myriad of conditions.  Those conditions include insomnia, anxiety, even chronic pain, and more!

If you’re struggling to figure out the difference between CBD distillate, CBD isolates, and other forms take a moment and do some research and read on at Peak City CBD. CBD distillation is a process you should be a little familiar with, especially if you’re planning to use CBD-infused products properly.

What Is CBD?

Before we cover the subject of distillation, it’s a good idea to cover some of the basics of CBD. CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring compound that can be found in the cannabis plant. Alongside its psychoactive cousin THC, CBD is the most abundant cannabinoid in the cannabis plant. CBD seems to help many ailments, just ask your friends and someone close to you has probably benefited from it. However, CBD is not intended to diagnose or cure any disease but rather mitigate some of the accompanying symptoms.

What Is CBD Distillate?

CBD distillate is the end result of an extraction process that requires several steps and a lot of expertise. You may have heard stories of people who managed to DIY this particular process, but it’s not something that’s common, nor is it something that we would suggest you try. CBD distillation is a rather complex process in which the solution must be thermally processed to the point where the compound (in this case CBD and other cannabinoids and terpenes) is vaporized but not completely removed from the solution. The result is a solution that is virtually free of any unwanted compounds and comprised of CBD in high concentration, usually greater than 70%.

CBD distillate contains other cannabinoids and terpenes, and they are a very important part of the puzzle and how the CBD can help people. See our other blog on the Entourage Effect and Talkin’ bout Terpenes. For example, CBD distillate contains no more than 0.3% THC, which is also, coincidentally, the legal limit. Distillate also contains many good and useful cannabinoids and terpenes and flavonoids that work together to create the benefit of CBD.

How Is Cannabis Distillate Regulated?

The whole CBD industry is generally not yet sufficiently regulated. Since CBD just became legal as a result of the 2018 Farm Bill, it’s not sufficiently clinically researched, and the FDA seems to not be in a rush to approve it officially. With that being said, CBD was removed from the list of controlled substances in 2018 thanks to the Farm Bill, making it legal to produce and sell nationwide. However, THC is still classified as a controlled substance because it has psychoactive properties, meaning it is still illegal in many states as well as on a federal level. This means that companies and distributors have to pay special attention to THC levels in their products and have to make sure it’s under 0.3% in order for it to be legal and adhere to certain regulations.

CBD distillate is one of the most potent forms of isolated cannabinoid products. Used properly in the right formulation, as we do at Peak City CBD, and you will see maximum benefits from CBD.  There are many advantages to using good quality CBD distillate like we produce at Peak City CBD.
